Col. Nuwagira Urges UWA Leaders to Embrace Positive Attitudes for Socio-Economic Transformation

Leaders from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) have been urged to embrace positive attitudes, discipline, and integrity as key drivers of effective leadership and socio-economic transformation. The call was made by Colonel AM Nuwagira, Director of Political Commissariat – Land Forces, during a presentation on Attitude Change for Socio-Economic Transformation at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) on October 28, 2026.

He noted that people’s attitudes are shaped by their experiences, backgrounds, education, environments, and interactions with others. He added that developing a common outlook and shared interests is essential for transforming individuals, institutions, and the country.

Cautioning against negative mindsets that hinder productivity, Col. Nuwagira highlighted self-defeating beliefs such as the stigma surrounding agriculture and rigid views on white collar jobs alongside common pitfalls like blaming others, fearing the unknown, and dwelling on past failures.

The presentation further identified negative thinking patterns, including making negative comparisons and holding onto anger, as significant barriers to personal and institutional growth.

To overcome these challenges, the leaders were encouraged to practice positive thinking, use constructive language, focus on solutions, adapt to changing circumstances, and recognize opportunities even in difficult situations. To combat workplace frustration, he offered practical emotional advice: “If you are angry, before you say anything, count from one to ten, because it changes the response you might have made, or if you have an opportunity, sleep a bit.”

He stressed that effective leadership goes beyond merely holding a position of authority, noting that leaders should actively contribute to solving personal, institutional, and national challenges.

The presentation underscored the need for leaders to cultivate positive attitudes and uphold strong values to improve organizational performance and advance Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. Mr. Ntalumbwa Eric delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the participants, expressing profound gratitude to Col. Nuwagira for his meaningful and eye-opening lecture.
